Join President Tom Davies in our Barrel Aging Cellars and sample La Merica alongside other old-world varieties like Petite Sirah, Syrah, Grenache and a likely surprise wine straight from the barrel!  Special Tastings will include old-world food pairings of hot pastas, fresh baked Italian bread, olive oil and balsamic vinegar.

Tours will reveal V. Sattui’s rich history beginning with Dario’s great grandfather, Vittorio Sattui, who came to America for a better life.

About 2014 La Merica:

“I wanted to make a wine that celebrated and honored our winery’s Italian heritage with a modern interpretation of a classic, pre-prohibition blend.   For over 150 years in California, Petite Sirah and Zinfandel have been planted side-by-side and are natural, blending partners – with Petite Sirah providing the color, spice and structure and Zinfandel contributing its varietal distinctive dark berry fruit and aromas.  Our new-world blend takes these classic grapes and steers away from the rustic, old-world style and boldly produces a wine filled with deeply, dark-fruited flavors, inky-purple color and supple and lingering textures.

In searching for name for this special wine I came across a paper given to me by Dr. Victor Geraci, a noted wine historian and professor at UC Berkeley during our 125th Anniversary of V. Sattui in 2010.   In his paper, he spoke of the mass Italian immigration of the late 1800s and early 1900s, with many of these immigrants finding a home and work in the nascent California winegrowing business.  In the dialect of their native tongue, they affectionately referred to their new home in America as La Merica.

About the 2016 Rosato di Sangiovese:

Made with 100% Sangiovese grapes, most from our Estate Hibbard Ranch Vineyard in the Carneros region, the juice was given minimal contact with the skins.  V. Sattui Winemaker Brooks Painter and his team wanted to create a rosé that is light in color, with an emphasis on the red cherry, ripe strawberry, and juicy watermelon aromatics of the grape.  The berry flavors carry through on the palate with a mouthwatering finish that makes you eager for your next sip.

Sattui’s Rosato di Sangiovese is a versatile wine to enjoy with cheese and charcuterie, smoked salmon, any shellfish, and light salads.  Perfect pairing?  A sunny day surrounded by friends and family.

 

Etruscan Food & Wine: The Banqueters of Ancient Italy

The Etruscans were an ancient civilization of people who lived in the modern-day Tuscany area of Italy, thriving from the 9th to the 1st  centuries BCE.  Their influence on ancient Roman and European culture was profound.  The Romans inherited many cultural and artistic traditions from the Etruscans, such as temple design, religious rituals, winemaking, and gathering friends and family for large, outdoor banquets.

Join us for a fascinating look at the Etruscan culture with one of the most knowledgeable experts in the field, Lisa Pieraccini.  Lisa is the project director for the Del Chiaro Center for Ancient Italian Studies at UC Berkeley.  She’ll give an informative lecture with visuals, as she highlights the dining and drinking customs of  this fascinating culture.

Chef Stefano Masanti will bring the Etruscan banquet table to life by creating a dining experience using many of the same ingredients and techniques used by the ancient Etruscans.  This will be a fun and delicious educational experience!

Our stunning winery, reminiscent of an estate in Tuscany with its lush landscaping and breathtaking vineyard views, is yours to explore and savor as you and your fellow guests stroll the exquisitely manicured grounds, dressed in your finest party clothes. You’ll watch the sun set over our iconic stone tower framed against the rolling hills. You’ll dine on a gourmet dinner prepared by our Italian-born chef, recipient of a coveted Michelin star, and drink the most prestigious, award-winning wines available only at V. Sattui. Live music from the biggest, most flamboyant Elton tribute show in the country, will waft over the vineyards as our attentive and knowledgeable staff ensure that your glass is always filled. After dinner, you’ll be transported back to Roaring 20s speakeasy in our cellars. This magical evening will linger in your memory for a very long time.

Returning Michelin Star CHEF STEFANO MASANTI

Sattui Winery is the only winery in the United States that has an in-house chef, Stefano Masanti, who has been awarded a Michelin star for the past eight years, including 2016. Chef Masanti, assisted by his chef de cuisine from his acclaimed restaurant in the Italian Alps, Il Cantinone, will prepare a five-course dinner that is the ultimate Italian gastronomical experience. It will feature dishes from the regions of Italy renowned for their outstanding food, including Toscano, Lombardia, Piedmonte and Veneto. This gourmet feast will be preceded by various passed appetizers and accompanied by rare and older vintages, the highest-rated cabernets, blends, reserve wines, Jeroboams and Nebuchadnezzars. Our finest dessert wines will accompany Chef Masanti’s special ending for this extraordinary dinner.

THE ROCKET MAN SHOW: The Biggest Production Ever Hosted By A Winery!

Winner of numerous music industry awards, this 90 minute show is the USA’s #1 full-time 70s and 80s Elton John Tribute Band and sets the standard for world-class entertainment. It’s a reenactment of an early Elton John concert with all the classic onstage antics, 100% live instruments, and flashy grand pianos. Rus Anderson, who embodies Elton John at his prime, even wears his actual glasses, jumpsuits and boots from 1973, as well as his Swarovski-laden tuxedo from 1984. V. Sattui is flying in the band from Florida for this one show that will take place under the big top in the middle of the vineyard!

Whisper the Secret Password and Jazz the Night Away in a 1920s Speakeasy!

Our barrel rooms will be transformed into an “authentic” speakeasy, complete with small tables, dim lights, private rooms hidden behind curtains, and secret passwords for special wines. You’ll enjoy luscious desserts, small plates and dancing to the music of the Mirage Band. In over 18 years as the resident band at the legendary Tonga Room at the Fairmont, the Mirage Band developed a loyal following with their catchy dance tunes, smooth jazz vocals and signature sound. Still a Nob Hill favorite, they are now the house band for the Top of the Mark at the Mark Hopkins. Our award-winning port and Madeira and cigars will be available to the gentlemen, and the ladies, too, on our terraces under the stars.

Friday, Sept. 15th

Join us on Friday afternoon for a private al fresco pizza-making demonstration and luncheon under the oaks!
Revel in the culinary genius of Michelin Star Chef Stefano Masanti, of Madesimo Italy, as he expertly demonstrates how to knead and toss the perfect dough and construct a variety of gourmet pizzas.  For those who want roll up their sleeves and put their hands in the dough – great!  Stefano will need volunteers.  Pizzas will be served bubbling hot right from our outdoor oven and paired with V. Sattui wines.

Dessert?  You bet!  After lunch, satisfy your sweet tooth at the Gelato Bar, featuring Stefano’s house-made gelato and a plethora of toppings to customize your dessert.  This event includes printed take-home recipes.
