2012 Russian River Pinot Noir

2012 Russian River Pinot Noir

A great vintage and an excellent location come together in this blend of three vineyards from the famed,cool-climate Russian River Valley, synonymous with the finest California Pinot Noir.  Light, silky and smooth, the wine shows great fruit concentration—along with luscious violet, cocoa and refined spice— but also restraint, balance and a lengthy finish.

Aged nine months in new and seasoned French oak, only 700 cases of this stylish and complex young wine were produced.

Russian River Valley - Pinot Noir is a difficult grape to grow, and this native of the Burgundy region of France achieves greatness in only a handful of places worldwide. Sonoma County’s Russian River Valley is one of these places. Its Pinot-perfect climate combined with an amazing complexity of soil types result in wines that reflect their individual sites, but also share a common thread of bright focused fruit, a rich and velvety mouthfeel and a high degree of ripeness, kept in check by bright acidity.

I visited the winery several years ago and never forgot the experience. I bought a case for the holidays trusting that it would be of the high quality that is expected from V.Sattiui. It didn't disappoint. It was better than expected, and you have a customer for life.

This was the first wine we tasted at the first winery we visited on a recent trip to Napa Valley. Three days and a dozen wineries later, this was our still our favorite wine. And we usually prefer cabs and merlots over a Pinot. We aren't overly sophisticated when it comes to wine, we just know when we like something. Every bottle we've had of this vintage has been amazing.
