Christina & Chris' Wedding

We were fortunate enough to have Christina & Chris share their wedding day with us here at V. Sattui! An elegant lawn ceremony was followed by a beautiful, clear night under the stars. Guests were served a spectacular dinner from Elaine Bell, and the ambiance in the barrel room couldn't have been more perfect. We wish the happy couple many more beautiful memories in the years to come and hope to see them soon!

Marcia & Louie's Wedding

Marcia and Louie could not have asked for a more perfect wedding. Marcia looked stunning walking down the aisle, and as the sun drifted below the horizon guests enjoyed V. Sattui's Henry Ranch Pinot Noir and Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc. They danced the night away on this beautiful summer evening. We wish Marcia and Louie the best!

Katlin & Colin's Wedding

Katlin and Colin enjoyed a beautiful evening courtyard ceremony. The couple, along with guests could not have asked for more perfect weather, and nothing could make their day more special than being surrounded by friends, family, and wine. With the vines in bloom, and summer finally here, the celebration continued on into the night. It was a pleasure to host such a wonderful ceremony. Congratulations!

Truffle Tremor

Living in northern California, we are privy to some of the most amazing goats milk cheese in the world. One of our favorites is made by Mary Keehn, the creator of California’s most famous goat cheese, Humboldt Fog, and her newest creation of goat cheese and truffles. This “Truffle Tremor” has a soft and delicate cake-like interior speckled with truffles giving the flavor an earthier tone with a slight tanginess. Allowing the cheese to mature produces a creamy layer under the rind enhancing the flavor of the goat milk. Enjoying this cheese with the 2009 Carsi Chardonnay is a perfect match for any pre-cursor to a Summertime dinner! Bon appetite.

Frost Protection

Do freezing temperatures harm the vines? Do those big fans in the vineyards keep the workers cool?

Wind machine
Frosts are welcome and frequent, sometimes occurring 20 to 30 times or more during the winter months. They actually harden fruiting buds and force vines into dormancy providing a healthful rest before the next growing season.

Frost becomes a predator as soon as buds pop out those tender leaves and shoots around the middle of March through April. When skies clear and the night air grows still; temperatures plummet and winery alarms sound the warning. The battle begins.

Where water is scarce (the vineyard is dry farmed or drip irrigated), those big ubiquitous propellers push warmer supernatant air into the low spots displacing the heavier, frosty air.

Where water is abundant, overhead sprinklers apply water at a rate of 50 gallons per acre per minute which freezes and encases the shoots in a protective layer of ice. However, if a well goes dry during a series of freezing nights, the war is over unless there is a reservoir to tap which allows the well to recover.

Nobody sleeps!!

Wind Machines in Vineyards

This morning I woke up to a roaring sound (it was not my stomach!) It was the wind machine in Vittorio’s Vineyard. We use wind machines for frost protection. The machine draws down warmer air from above and circulates it with the colder air to prevent frost.

Another furry little friend at the winery

Here in our tasting room was another little furry friend. He was cute as can be. Although he couldn’t drink the wine he did enjoy the sights of the winery and the smells of the wines, cheeses at the deli and foods being prepared. I’m happy to see more people bringing their pets along to our pet friendly environment. Now with the warm weather on its way, I think we’ll see more happy companions!
