Nestled in the hills at the confluence of three valleys, 23 miles east of Siena in Tuscany, is Monastero di Coriano, built more than 1,000 years ago.  It remained a fortified monastery in the Augustian order of the Catholic Church until 1650 when the order was abolished by the Pope, as it rivaled his power.  It then became a farm.  Dario Sattui, owner of V. Sattui winery and Castello di Amorosa bought it from two French painters in 1991.

It has recently been beautifully and authentically remodeled, and one apartment is available for rent on a limited basis, by the week, only to V. Sattui and/or Castello di Amorosa club members.

The monastery itself is exactly what you would imagine it to be – a courtyard with a deep well surrounded on four sides by a church and two story buildings in which the farm animals and monks lived. 

It overlooks a castle 2 miles away, another monastery, a walled medieval town, vineyards, olive orchards, fields, and forest.  The monastery is surrounded by 5 acres of olives and immense forests.  It is very private and secluded yet close to many major sites... Monastero di Coriano is very centrally located and near just about everything.

The apartment was formerly Dario Sattui’s apartment for over twenty years (he now lives part-time on the other side of the courtyard).  It is approximately 1,000 square feet, has the best views of the entire property (including great sunsets from all rooms, possesses a large fireplace, and a large fully-equipped kitchen/dining room area.  Interior walls are plaster and stone and ceilings are of heavy timbers and hand-made brick tiles.  It is furnished in antiques and features FREE Wi-Fi service.  The closest neighbor is more than a half-mile away!

The monastery possesses a swimming pool, a pond, an outdoor oven for making bread and pizza, as well as an outdoor kitchen and pergola for outdoor-dining.  It also houses an onsite caretaker family who speak Italian and Russian but only a little English.  Here is a chance to practice your Italian!  Bedding is changed once during the week.

The rentable two-bedroom, one large bath apartment is capable of containing four persons and is for rent on a WEEKLY BASIS (Sunday noon to Sunday noon).

Price per week is $1,750 with a fully refundable damage deposit of $1,500.  
Cleaning service also available at extra cost.
